Every year I host a charity fashion event at my house. This year I decided to let the cameras in and we filmed the event as seen in Series 3. There’s always lots of buzz in the lead up to the event, with the day raising lots of money for a very worthy cause.
Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention, which is now renamed Prevent Breast Cancer, (preventbreastcancer.org.uk) is a charity that is very close to my heart. My mum lost her mum to breast cancer when she was just 13 years old, and my auntie Pat, mums sister, sadly lost her battle with cancer at the age of 52.
I first found out about the charity when my mum and I were tested at Wythenshawe hospital to see if we were carrying the breast cancer gene. Professor Gareth Evans who has established a national and international reputation in clinical and research aspects of cancer genetics, particularly in neurofibromatosis and breast cancer. Fortunately, after undergoing a thorough analysis of our genetics and regular mammograms my mum and I have received the all-clear.
I think we all know someone we have lost to the grips of cancer. I also watched my beloved Auntie Saunie lose her battle to this disease. Saunie was my mum’s best friend and mother to my childhood and longest, dearest friends, Sam and Barrie.
I decided to run the event at lunchtime and invite local business friends in the fashion industry to come along and showcase their collections.
I always use the best models, make up artists and stylists to make sure we put on a great show. Food was by my favourite caterer, Cath Skates and her amazing team. One of my fave hangouts, Neighbourhood, a bar in Manchester Spinningfields also got involved this year, shaking up a wide host of cocktails, and dishing out delicious sushi!
I hope more and more people continue to run events like this to raise money for such a great cause and help raise awareness to prevent this awful disease. For more information, check out Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention.
On to my look for episode eight:
I just had to go for a statement piece for the fashion event! My Fendi denim look jumpsuit was the one. I love that it’s so comfortable, yet daring as it looks like pyjamas!
This look was all over the catwalk this year, and I teamed it with my red shoes my husband treated me for Valentine’s Day.
